About

About RatingPlate

RatingPlate is an independent water heater specification database. We organize publicly available data so you can compare models by what actually matters: fit, efficiency, operating cost, and installation requirements.
No paid rankings. No sponsored reviews. No accounts or checkout flows.

Why this site exists

When a water heater fails, most people start Googling with a sense of urgency and end up on review sites, retailer pages, or forums full of opinions. The actual spec sheet, the document that tells you whether a unit will physically fit, what electrical or gas requirements it needs, and how much it will cost to run, is buried in a PDF on the manufacturer's website or scattered across retailer listings with inconsistent formatting.

RatingPlate pulls that data together into one consistent format. Every field is source-tagged so you can see where it came from and decide how much to trust it. The goal is not to tell you what to buy. It is to give you the information you need to have a productive conversation with your plumber, contractor, or building department.

What we are

We are this
  • A specification database. We compile manufacturer-published data into a consistent, comparable format.
  • Source-transparent. Every data field carries a source tag you can verify yourself.
  • A research starting point. Good for narrowing options before you call a professional.
  • Independent. No manufacturer pays to appear, rank higher, or get a better review.
We are not this
  • Not a retailer. We do not sell water heaters or process orders.
  • Not an installer. We are not licensed contractors, plumbers, or electricians.
  • Not a review site. We do not score products or give editorial recommendations.
  • Not professional advice. Always verify with the manufacturer, your local code office, and a licensed professional.

How we make money

Some pages contain links to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Every affiliate link is marked "(paid link)" right next to it, and each page with affiliate links carries a footer disclosure.

Affiliate relationships do not determine which models appear on the site, how they are ranked, or what data we display. Rankings are based on published specifications and stated methodology, not on commissions. We do not display prices because Amazon prohibits showing prices outside their platform.

Data limits

We try to keep the site accurate, but product lines, warranties, regulations, rebates, and retailer availability change. Some fields are derived from multiple public sources and may be incomplete, delayed, or superseded by later manufacturer documents.

If a value matters to your installation, treat our page as a research starting point and confirm the live source before you buy or build around it.

Ownership

The site's original text, comparisons, calculations, design, and compiled database structure are owned by RatingPlate. Manufacturer names, logos, and model numbers remain the property of their respective owners and are used only for identification and reference. Site use is governed by our Terms of Use.
